Bird Food

Last weekend the boys and I spent Saturday morning together in down town Falls Church.  We visited the library and checked out books for the week, went by the farmers market and picked up a few treats, and stopped by the park at the old Cherry Tree Hill House, an historic farmhouse, barn and grounds preserved in the middle of the down town district.  This weekend someone from the historic society was there allowing kids to turn dried corn cobs into bird food to demonstrate how to use two old fashioned machines.  The first machine removed the corn kernels from the husk, and the second chopped the kernels up.

 The kernel remover.

The boys took turns with the kernel chopper, and we left with some interesting food to leave out for the birds who visit our balcony.  If I can get a picture of birds eating the food on our balcony I will add it to the post later!
