Student of the Month

Mr. Sheedy presenting Conor with his certificate.

Conor with the other honorees.
Conor was honored at the school assembly last week as one of the "students of the month" for January.  Each month Providence Elementary recognizes a different quality they want to promote in their students, and they celebrate one child from each grade who best exemplifies that characteristic.  It might be the student who has tried the hardest at difficult tasks, or the student who is consistently neat and tidy, or the one who participates in the most extracurricular activities.  This month they celebrated good sportsmanship.

Mr. Sheedy, the principle, gave a nice speech stating that this month students were singled out because they were good sportsmen not in the typical athletic sense, but in all aspects of school life.  These are the students who their teachers could always count on to help out, to go the extra mile, and to be a helpful presence in whatever activity they are taking part in. These are the students who don't think about only doing their fair share of a task, but who always want to be helpful and support their teachers and fellow students.  He said that they are the first to volunteer their time, and they do so with an unfailing positive attitude.  I think that pretty much describes Conor, don't you?  Conor has been a very helpful and caring person his whole life, and I remember his preschool teachers in The Bahamas nicknamed him their "little professor" because he was always helping his fellow classmates figure things out.

Congratulations Conor, this was a well deserved award!
