Paper-cut art

Last June I posted about visiting Zhu jia jiao, a small water town just outside of Shanghai. This is a great little town, and we have been back now many times with visitors, but one of our favorite things there remains an artist who lives there and is a paper cut champion.

Here is a piece on the artist from a local paper:

The Ancient town of Zhu Jia Jiao has earned increasing recognition in recent years for its delicate riverside scenery. A new paper-cut scenery provides a panoramic view of the town. The work measures 1.3 meters long and 80 centimeters wide. There are bridges and temples. And in the marketplace vivid characters are depicted.

The paper-cut is from the hand of Chen Nanjun, known as the most distinguished artist of the Southern School of Chinese Paper-cut. Other than this, his magnum opus, Chen has done paper cut of many tourist sites around Zhu Jia Jiao. His art pieces also include flowers, birds, and the Chinese zodiac. Chen shays the panorama of Zhu Jia Jiao expresses his love for the beautiful riverside town.

Here are pictures of some of the art we have bought from him...

You can't tell the size of this from the picture, but it is about 1 1/2 feet square.

This picture turned out the worst, but it is probably my favorite piece...

The dragon hangs in Conor's room, and the forest scene hangs in Ryan's.
