Grand Canyon Days 3-4 (August 6th and 7th)

Day 3 August 6:
Morning at camp

Little Colorado
We spent part of this morning on the Little Colorado River where we were able to get out and float down through a few small rapids. The river here is very shallow, safe to swim in, and extremely muddy!

They had to wear their life jackets upside down, like a diaper to swim in the river!

Walking back to where we left the raft where the Little Colorado meets the Colorado River.

We went through a few larger rapids this day, Hance Rapid and Sockdolager Rapid were probably the biggest, but most of the day was a perfect, warm day on the river.

In the afternoon we stopped for a short hike to see some Native American artifacts. There are places like this where evidence remains that the river planes have been home to different tribes for so long. This location still has evidence of houses, including some walls that gave a sense of how large they were and some shards of pottery.

Grapevine Campground at mile 81.5 after about a 28 mile day on the river.

Day 4 August 7
We passed through quite a few rapids on the 7th, including Grapevine Rapid right at the start of the day, and Horn Creek, Granite, Crystal and Hermit at the end of the day.
