A few weeks ago AES hosted a design and build day for all of the first grade. Each of the kids was challenged to build a piece of furniture for a stuffed animal. The furniture should be functional, and it had to withstand the weight of two wooden blocks. Ryan decided build something for a real animal instead of a stuffed one and he built a bed for Jazzy, a friend's dog who sometimes comes to stay with us when his family leaves Delhi. Jazzy is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who we love very much, and who Ryan especially likes because Jazzy sleeps in Ryan's room when he stays the night!
It was crazy, with tape, paper, cardboard and other building supplies everywhere!
Ryan's creation easily handled the weights. He made stairs because he thought the bed was maybe too high!
I didn't get a picture of it, but in the end Ryan decided to build a ramp down the other side, so Jazzy would have stairs to climb up and then a slide to come down the other side. Seemed like a logical design for a bed to me!
