Animal Kingdom (Disney World #2)

We spent one day of out trip at the Animal Kingdom, and had a great time.  Conor's highlight was getting to ride Expedition Everest (a ride that looks like the Matterhorn on the outside but is far superior!) 6 times.  He almost got 7 in, but was thwarted at the last minute when they shut down the "single rider" line.  Ryan enjoyed hanging out in Dinosaur Land where they have a playground and lots of space to run and climb on things.  The Safari Tour was fun for everyone, but Ryan didn't particularly enjoy the "bumpy bridge" where they make it seem like you are going over an old bridge that could give way at any moment... he doesn't quite have down the concept of things not being exactly what they seem at an amusement park yet!

Conor and Ryan watching the giraffes and gazelles on the Safari tour.
Still on the safari tour, not sure what they are watching here.
Watching the bird show, Ryan was pretty impressed!

In Dinosaur Land, Ryan was using this big guy as a slide!

Also in Dinosaur Land, Ryan had a wonderful time at "The Dig."

Ryan had a great time chasing sheep and goats around and brushing them!
These are two of the slower ones!

Pictures at the Tree of Life.  This "tree" (made mostly of concrete) is a huge exhibit at the Animal Kingdom, and is smack dab in the middle of the park.  The branches span 165 feet across and the trunk is 50 feet wide.  20 artists carved into the trunk, branches and roots over 320 animals.  It took 18 months to build the tree, and thousands of people had their hand in the construction.  The end result is a really cool place to wander and explore, with paths that twist and turn around the roots and even a waterfall or two.  We took the picture below of Conor on our first visit to the park in December 2005 in the same spot!
