Well here I am sitting in Shanghai entering the strange new world of blogging. Our big family move happened just over one week ago. We left Los Angeles after a very nice visit with my family, and flew to Shanghai, China. Conor celebrated his sixth birthday on the plane, and the pilot let him see the cockpit as a special treat. For his birthday, Conor got a Flip video camera which he is using to document things as he sees them here in China. Once he masters the art of making a video that won't make the viewer seasick I will post some of his work on this blog!
We arrived at our new house late at night, and only had the energy to get a bit to eat and go to sleep. Is was sometime the next day that we ventured out and saw that we are living in a very nice neighborhood which seems to be overrun with children. I placed a picture of Conor in front of the fountain in our front yard at the beginning of this post.

We were very lucky and arrived on Labor Day weekend so Greg had three days to adjust to the local time before he had to go to work. On our first day here Greg's friend took him around to a few local shops and gave him a mini tour of our district. Although he really enjoyed it, and it was nice to be able to get a few groceries etc., his advice to me was to wait a few days as the crowds and pace where quite overwhelming. I have since gone to a few of the shops he went to and definitely see what he meant. I don't think I will be attempting to go anywhere near the shops with Conor or Ryan on a weekend any time soon!
Conor's school had started a week before we got here, so the whole family took him to his new school on Monday morning, and got to meet his teacher Mrs. Wiser. She is from Washington State, and this is her first overseas teaching experience so I think we will all be learning as we go this year.
Conor continues to be his normal well-adjusted self, and has made new friends and gotten used to this new place surprisingly fast. He is already in Soccer and taking Tennis lessons, so he is definitely keeping busy and having fun. I will take some pictures of Conor's school soon to post. The big news on campus is all about the new "super" playground that has just been put in. So far Conor seems pretty impressed!
Take care,
Kate
