A short drive outside of Vienna is a beautiful walk at Myra Falls. The falls are fed by an underground lake and although it is only a few kilometers long from the topmost point to
where it goes underground again, historically Myra Falls powered quite a
few mills and sawmills in the Myra Valley. There well-developed hiking trail that includes 19 bridges over the gorge and falls was built in 1885 by the Austrian Tourist Club which still maintains it
There is a nice pub at the bottom of the falls, which was very convenient because when we arrived for our hike it was pouring rain. After stalling a bit with some Wiener schnitzel the rain passed us by and we went on a lovely (if slightly wet) hike through the Austrian forest.
I was there too!
