Hello! It has been quite a long time since I updated the blog, but for most of you that means we were spending time with you, or at least we were back in the same state for a while, so I hope you forgive me! Life in India is good, but it is also nice to be able to take the summer off and breath the clean air from our cabin in Big Bear. On our way home we stopped off in New York City to show the boys a few of the sights. We also took them to their first Broadway show, Wicked, which they loved! Here they are before the show enjoying the amazing theater. Behind them is the huge map of Oz.
We didn't stay long in New York though, and we were soon back home enjoying the great outdoors. This picture was taken from the chair lift at one of the ski resorts in Big Bear where they let you take the lift to the top so you can hike down the mountain. The walk is still pretty long, about 4-5 miles, but since it is all downhill it was an easy way to get us started.
Friends of ours who go all the way back to our first tour in the Foreign Service in The Bahamas visited us for a few days and went with us on this hike. It was so nice to catch up with people we had only been able to connect with online for so many years!
Walks with Scout on the National Trust trail near our house were a daily activity!
Although we spent most of the summer in Big Bear, this photo of Ryan with a big bear is actually at the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles.
Ryan and I hung out at these swings in at the park while Conor was taking tennis lessons.
Something else that we always look forward to when we go back to the cabin is spotting the birds who come to eat at our balcony. The variety is amazing, with everything from tiny humming birds and nuthatches to huge hawks. There are also eagles who live in the San Bernardino Mountains, but I haven't spotted one yet. Maybe next year!
