Learning a bit too much about Dengue Fever

About a week before Christmas Ryan contracted Dengue Fever from a mosquito bite. This disease can be very mild or very serious, and you don't really know until you are in it which way it is going to go.  Ryan's platelet and white blood cell counts dropped low enough that the State Department doctors agreed we should move him to Miami Children's Hospital for treatment, so Ryan and I got to experience a Medivac back to the States!  It was a scary experience, but the doctors and administrators at Miami Children's were amazing, and Ryan recovered just in time to get us on the last flight back for Christmas Eve.  He was a pretty unhappy boy for a while there, as Dengue makes your whole body ache. Also, as a part of his treatment, he had to have blood drawn twice a day, and blood pressure and temperature taken every two hours (even through the night).  He objected strenuously to all of this, and the only lingering side effect from the experience is an occasional cry in the middle of the night "NO TAKE MY NUMBERS!" or "I NOT WANT YOU TO HAVE MY BLOOD!"  Here are a few pictures of him in Miami.  The first is when he was still hooked up to the IV, but feeling much better.  The second and third are minutes after they finally took the IV out and all he wanted to do was play with his cars on the ground.
