Take Your Child To Work

Yesterday was take your child to work day at the US Consulate Shanghai and Conor had a very full day learning about what happens at a consulate every day.

After a morning briefing and photo session with the Consul General, the kids were sworn in as "Officers for the day."

They met with the Marine guards and security office who keep the consulate safe, and got to try on some of their gear. Conor also got to use night vision goggles to find things in a dark room.

They learned the proper way to greet someone and exchange business cards, and the kids each got business cards with their name and "officer for the day!"

Conor was the Secretary of State in a mock meeting with the Mayor of Shanghai!

The kids got a briefing from the fraud department and also helped detect some fraudulent visa applicants.
