Taikong Lu

I finally got out to visit another new area of Shanghai yesterday and it was great! Taikang lu is a short street with lanes and alleys that lead off the main road, each one filled with shops, stalls, and cafes. Once you leave the main street you are in a maze of small lanes that turn and cross each other. Wandering the alleys full of shops, cafes, galleries and artisan workshops I am sure you would see different things each time you go. The cafes are great, and most of them have outdoor seating so you can just relax and watch the other shoppers and the locals go about their day.
If you like, you can also stop for a piece of pizza!

And who could resist "Dogs thing on sale"!

This is an old residential neighborhood, and if you look up as you walk down the lanes you can see that most of the stores are just the renovated first floors of houses which are still in use. The unmistakable sign that people are living there is the ever-present laundry hanging over head!

I didn't take a picture (what was I thinking?) but there was also a shop that sold only things made from Yak. Really beautiful clothing made from "yakshmere" and even yak cheese! The sweaters were actually really soft, but with the weather heating up I was able to resist the temptation.
